Elegant Images photographed Marie and Joe’s Rocky Mountain fall engagement session recently. Colorado has some the most beautiful backdrops to have your engagement photos done. Add the Rocky Mountains with fall colors as your backdrop, plus your dogs, and you have the perfect recipe for beautiful portraits.
Marie and Joe are getting married at Spruce Mountain Ranch in the summer of 2014. We headed up to the Rocky Mountains for their session. To start the session we started at the first sign of Aspens we could find. Didn’t take long to find them since they were everywhere. Their dogs where so obedient until Marie and Joe got down on the ground with them for some photos. Once they were down on the ground the dogs were ready to play. We roamed around for a while and then made our way above timberline for some great big mountain shots in the background. Mission Accomplished.
I was super stoked about this session when we planned it out. Talking to Emily and Kevin about incorporating something that is important to them into their session was a no brainer after Kevin told me his passionate hobby. He flies airplanes with his dad. They own two planes, that they love to fly all over the place. When Emily was living in Sterling, they would fly out to pick her up and bring her to Longmont to have a weekend together. We actually photographed their engagement session after their wedding because of their schedule and then the historic Colorado floods.
Emily was holding off on wanting to do a fall engagement session, when the floods hit. Everything Emily had including all her wedding stuff was in the basement which was flooded. The only thing from her wedding that wasn’t in the basement was her wedding dress. Her wedding dress was at the cleaners getting a spot removed. Emily was the calmest bride I had ever met in a crisis like this. This just wasn’t something small that happened to her wedding plans. Her venue was in doubt as the whole town of Lyons was hit and was not accessible. All her wedding decorations, programs, trinkets, and shoes were in the flooded basement. Along with most of her belongings. Before the wedding when we met, all she said is “we will get married in a parking lot if we have to”. Calm as calm could be.
For the session we met at the Longmont Airport and drove the plane down the runway where we could park it with Longs Peak Mountain in the background. It was off to the side so if any planes were coming or going we wouldn’t be in the way. We were able to do the session on a weekday which meant other planes wouldn’t be coming and going so much. On the weekend it is usually packed, they said. It’s always awesome to be able in incorporate something special about the couple, that means something to them. It’s also great to create art that they can hang big on their wall.

WOW, my first wedding where I photographed the brides senior photos. Does that mean I am getting old? I photographed Brittany’s senior photos 5 years ago and now she is getting married. When I met with Brittany & Eric, we planned their engagement session…A Ricky Bobby inspired engagement session. Eric wanted to include his motorcycle and I suggested a race track that was close by both of us. It’s a small local race track and I had never been there. Eric had actually raced there and was excited about the idea. .
So we were set and I met them at the track for their engagement session. As we walked around taking photos with his motorcycle, we talked, and laughed about movies. Since we were at a race track we started quoting lines from Talladega Nights, which for those of you have never seen it, is a racing comedy starring Will Ferrel. One of the funniest scenes in the movie is Will Ferrels character “Ricky Bobby” who crashes in a race and thinks he is on fire. He strips off all his clothes saying the funniest things, while his buddy tries to put out the pretend fire. Well, I said if you guys are up for re-creating it, I am up for photographing it. Eric was up for it and had all the moves down, flailing his arms flying all around in only his underwear, shoes, and helmet. We were all laughing so hard and practically crying.
I love my clients. I have the best job in the world. Head over to our website to see more of our inspired engagement sessions.
Kammi and I are so looking forward to Emily and Danny’s summer 2014 wedding at Lionscrest Manor. We have known Emily for a while. We met Danny at a wedding we photographed and Emily was the bridesmaid. Former military man and an incredible guy. Danny actually called me to make sure we had their wedding date available before he proposed. He had a master plan for their wedding and so did Emily. They had talked about getting married often and what they wanted for their wedding. He just did a lot of behind the scene planning and date holding before he proposed.
They went to California to see Emily’s brother who lives there. They all went to see their favorite artist, John Mayer. The concert was held at the Hollywood Bowl, which is on my bucket list to see a concert there. Danny also proposed during this trip. We can’t wait for their wedding. As soon as they got back the scheduled their sessions as they wanted fall engagement photos. We had an incredibly beautiful day filled with fall colors.
